Success Story – IRRIFRANCE & ACTIA: Connected irrigation

…supporting sustainable agriculture

The global irrigation market is under pressure: farmers must produce more while reducing water consumption. Irrigation solution manufacturers must provide machines that deliver precision, automation, and connectivity to meet user needs and constraints.
In this context, IRRIFRANCE, a recognized specialist in irrigation systems, reels, pivots, and full covers, strategically chose ACTIA to digitize its equipment and modernize customer practices.
The technological partnership, initiated over 15 years ago, began with integrating displays and onboard controllers on reels. It quickly evolved toward advanced control software and the creation of a complete digital ecosystem, including connectivity, a mobile app, and a supervision platform.

“ACTIA knows our machines inside out. Their expertise allows us to innovate quickly without having to repeatedly explain our technical needs, while successfully digitizing our equipment. Their agility and quality of service make all the difference in meeting new market challenges,” says Mr. Noumane AÏDI, President of the IRRIFRANCE group.

ACTIA’s Ecosystem and Digital Services for IRRIFRANCE

ACTIA designed a solution for IRRIFRANCE covering the entire connected irrigation cycle: from the onboard controller to web supervision, including robust connectivity and an intuitive mobile app. Each technological component is designed to withstand the demanding use and storage conditions of agriculture and meet the specific needs of each stakeholder: manufacturer, distributor, and farmer.

ACTIA Technological Components Integrated into IRRIFRANCE Machines

  • Onboard controllers and displays: From the start, ACTIA adapted its displays to integrate a controller in the same unit, creating a compact, robust system capable of controlling the entire machine. The screen shows essential data and allows the farmer to program the reel directly on-site.
  • Connected telematics unit (e-Track): Acting as a connected gateway, it collects machine data, ensures geolocation, reports alerts, and enables remote control.

IrrifranceMS: Multi-Level Platform for All Stakeholders

ACTIA developed a custom digital solution for IRRIFRANCE: the IRRIFRANCE Management System (IrrifranceMS). Designed with multiple levels, IrrifranceMS provides tailored access for each stakeholder.

  • For the manufacturer: Control and continuous improvement
IRRIFRANCE maintains global visibility over its machine fleet and operating data. IrrifranceMS is a powerful analysis tool, providing valuable insights to continuously improve design, performance, and reliability.
  • For distributors: Service and loyalty tool
Distributors can track alerts, perform remote diagnostics, and manage maintenance contracts. IrrifranceMS enables active fleet management and continuous machine monitoring, transforming their commercial role into a service partnership.
“We are no longer just resellers, but true service partners,” says a distributor.
  • For farmers: Simplicity and efficiency
Farmers benefit from a clear and intuitive dashboard to control machines, review cycle histories, and optimize field irrigation. Result: more precise, simpler, and stress-free water management. IrrifranceMS also reminds them of maintenance schedules to ensure their equipment is fully operational when needed.

Mobile App: At the Heart of Control

Digitizing irrigation gives farmers the ability to monitor and control machines anytime. ACTIA–IRRIFRANCE mobile app achieves this: a tool as practical as the onboard display, available on smartphones, tablets, and PCs.

A natural extension of the display
The mobile app mirrors the onboard display’s visual logic, with intuitive pictograms, ensuring immediate usability.

Full features at your fingertips
Farmers can start or stop programs, adjust settings, receive alerts, and check consumption statistics remotely—saving time and optimizing crops.

Designed for daily farm life
Agricultural days involve constant movement: checking reels, adjusting programs, or stopping and restarting machines. With ACTIA’s mobile app, these tasks are simplified, even in rural networks or challenging conditions. Farmers literally carry control of irrigation in their pocket.

Time-saving and water management benefits
Beyond convenience, the app saves time, improves responsiveness to weather events, and optimizes water usage—making it highly appreciated by users and a key differentiator for IRRIFRANCE.

“Farmers needed a simple, effective solution to remotely control machines. ACTIA’s app, designed to IRRIFRANCE specifications, mirrors the onboard display interface: no relearning needed. They can stop a program if it rains, start a machine remotely, or check water usage in near real-time. This saves time and ensures peace of mind in daily management. For IRRIFRANCE, it’s a decisive advantage,” explains Mr. Noumane AÏDI.

Electronics That Keep Pace with the Fields

Irrigation machines operate outdoors year-round, facing rain, dust, mud, sun, temperature swings, and vibrations from tractors and uneven terrain. ACTIA designs hardened electronics to withstand these extreme conditions.
Compact, waterproof, and robust, these systems combine computing power, display, and connectivity. Whether the onboard controller or e-Track telematics module, they ensure reliable operation: program control, alarms, geolocation, data transmission, and synchronization with the mobile app.

A Coherent and Sustainable Chain

By combining hardened controllers, robust connectivity, an intuitive app, and a supervision platform, ACTIA provides IRRIFRANCE with a complete digital chain. Each component is designed to last, endure field conditions, and evolve as needed, adding value for manufacturers, enhancing distributor services, and improving farmer efficiency and sustainability.

Looking Ahead: Smart Irrigation

IRRIFRANCE and ACTIA are already working on new features, including integrating weather and environmental data. Objective: automatically adjust irrigation programs based on rainfall and soil conditions for even more efficient water management.
“The future is weather- and soil-driven irrigation. With ACTIA, we are ready for this next step,” says Mr. Noumane AÏDI.

Beyond this case study, this success story illustrates ACTIA’s mission: helping manufacturers digitize their equipment. By designing durable, scalable, and connected embedded electronics, ACTIA transforms traditional machines into intelligent solutions.
With IRRIFRANCE, ACTIA demonstrates that mechanical robustness and digital intelligence can combine to create more competitive and sustainable agriculture.

About IRRIFRANCE

A story of an invention turned icon:
In 1963, IRRIFRANCE revolutionized irrigation by inventing the reel. This major innovation transformed agricultural practices and paved the way for global irrigation development. More than fifty years later, the reel remains a benchmark, copied by many international competitors—a testament to its success and pride for the brand. Today, over 100,000 IRRIFRANCE reels operate in more than 80 countries, demonstrating the lasting impact of this French invention on global agriculture.
