ACTIA opens its subsidiary in Japan. Created on 20 September, ACTIA Japan is located in Yokohama. Following the opening of an office in Japan in 2017, this is another step towards the group’s objectives to evaluate and seize new commercial opportunities in the country, while supporting its international customers locally.

ACTIA: Valuing local presence

By opening a subsidiary in Japan, ACTIA is demonstrating its determination to connect more closely with industry leaders in Japan, who are of great global importance on the automotive market. Japan is currently the world’s third largest producer of light vehicles, with an annual production of 5.1 million in 2018, or a 5.6% market share*, behind China and the United States. With ACTIA, Japanese manufacturers will benefit from the group’s long-established expertise in on-board electronic systems and the flexibility of a medium-sized company. The creation of ACTIA Japan will provide customers with a local contact that is adapted to their culture and can offer them the full range of the group’s expertise.

ACTIA adapts to local markets

This new presence in Asia establishes ACTIA’s place on a strategic market, with solutions based on the group’s technological know-how and on an international dimension that allows it to adapt its offers to local expectations and particularities. ACTIA has proven its capacity to partly redesign key products, by integrating new specifications to meet local requirements. For example, the PODIUM 2 bus dashboard features a standard basic design that is modular and can be adequately adapted to make it a real international product. The certification of all communications products is specific to Japan. The certifying laboratories set regulatory requirements concerning the electromagnetic radiation produced by information processing equipment. The procedure requires testing to take place in accredited Japanese laboratories. ACTIA’s local presence will facilitate these processes and accelerate the launch of the group’s telematics products on the market.

Ready for the off-highway market

Although the inventor of the hydraulic shovel is French (Poclain), almost all excavators are Japanese, even those by Western brands: Komatsu is the world number 1, followed by the specialist Hitachi, whose machines are also sold under the John Deere brand. They may look like Western machines on the surface, but they are still Japanese. India, South-East Asia, and above all China are the biggest buyers of excavators that they do not make themselves, preferring those produced by global manufacturers. Faced with the scale of this market, ACTIA has a role to play. As a partner of the main manufacturers on the Off-Highway market, ACTIA offers a strong, connected and secure electronic architecture that optimises managers’ costs. ACTIA takes into account the ever-more complex functional safety requirements when designing its products and solutions. This is a real asset for the brand and should appeal to Japanese customers.

Japan: A specialist in passenger flows

Japan’s transport networks are growing fast, with support from the government. In Japan, mobility is a crucial issue. This is why the bus network covers all towns. The rail network is also highly developed, connecting almost all towns. This network is considered the largest in the world, and with good reason! Japanese bus and coach manufacturers market solutions in Europe that comply with European standards. With 30 years of expertise in on-board vehicle systems, the ACTIA group supports major manufacturers and operators in meeting the challenges of the transport world: safety, profitability, comfort, and environment.

For example, ACTIA is able to provide support for Japanese integrators and operators, enabling them to meet ITS requirements for markets in Europe (particularly the ITxPT standard) and the rest of the world. As an original equipment supplier, ACTIA provides manufacturers with certified, high-quality automotive systems.
