Since the 1990s, diagnostics have relied on structured communication protocols (KWP2000, CAN, UDS, DoIP, etc.), industry standards that are still used today in SDVs for exchanges between ECUs or with the cloud. This intimate knowledge of E/E architectures and data flows is an indispensable foundation for SDVs.
